About “Burning”

A short film about a relationship gone bad. What does it take to make someone snap?

The summary:
“Burning” is a short film about a relationship that goes horribly wrong. It follows the main character, Meredith, over the course of a night as she tries to cope with a betrayal of trust, revealing how her relationship began and fell apart through a series of flashbacks. At the end, she has a choice to make: let her anger go, or let it burn?

The plot:
“Burning” is told through two separate timelines that are woven together. The first timeline happens over the course of an hour one night. Meredith wanders through the city trying to cope with some undetermined sadness. She starts off at a bar and makes her way through the city, listening to other couples talk happily, and eventually deciding to buy a pack of cigarettes and smoke her troubles away.

The other timeline is revealed through flashbacks while Meredith is going about her night. We see how she and her boyfriend met, where they began to have trouble, and how it all came crashing down. After the last flashback, which shows what happened in the moments before the film started, we find Meredith back in the present, faced with a choice about what to do with her anger. She has to decide whether she wants to move on with her life or give into the rage.
